JOB DESCRIPTION: HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
Qualifications:
1. Shall have general qualifications required of a teacher.
2. Shall hold a Master’s Degree.
3. Shall have at least three years of successful teaching experience.
4. Must possess appropriate administrator’s license as required by the State of Ohio for the position.
Appointment:
1. The Board of Education shall employ/nonrenew the high school principal as defined in current law under conditions set forth by Local and County Board policy, and the State Department of Education.
2. The contract shall run from August 1st to July 31st. The contract shall be for two hundred and sixty (260) days of service.
Role/Responsibility:
The high school principal is directly responsible to the Superintendent for all organization, administration, and supervision within his/her building. The principal serves as both instructional leader and the site manager of the high school.
Duties:
1. Shall keep the Superintendent of the school district completely and continuously informed as to the condition of the school and its activities therein.
2. Shall oversee a program of instruction in accordance with Ohio Minimum Standards for Elementary and Secondary Education and all local, county, and state policies.
3. Shall work competitively with the staff for the best interest of students.
4. Shall be responsible for the health and welfare of students and teachers.
5. Shall be responsible for assisting in the development of several curricula and in planning and adapting the course of study to the needs and interest of the students.
6. Shall be responsible for maintaining good public relations with the community to enrich the learning program.
7. Shall take an active interest in local, state, and national professional organizations.
8. Shall be responsible for the classification, promotion, and retention of students within the school.
9. Shall constantly appraise and evaluate the instructional program.
10. The principal shall use the board adopted evaluation form for the formal evaluations. All teachers will be evaluated according to the negotiated agreement and Board policy.
11. Shall oversee the attendance, conduct, safety and health of pupils.
12. Shall be responsible for at least nine fire drills and have tornado drills annually.
13. Shall be responsible for school enterprises and activities.
14. Shall be responsible for parent-teacher organizations and their activities as related to the high school program.
15. Is not to receive payment in addition to his/her regular salary and travel on official duty, unless authorized by the Board.
16. Shall be fully responsible for decisions made in his/her building.
17. Shall establish rules for providing order in the buildings and on the grounds as may be agreed upon in consultation with the Superintendent.
18. Shall be on duty 30 minutes before the opening of school in the morning and remain on duty 30 minutes after the last regular class is dismissed in the afternoon. This regulation is not meant to restrict the principal to the building for this period since many of his/her duties will necessitate out of the building at times.
19. Shall have the authority to excuse any pupil who has a written request from a parent, if he/she deems advisable, before the regularly scheduled dismissal time.
20. Has no authority to dismiss the entire school before the regular hour without the approval of the Superintendent or designee.
21. Shall be responsible for classroom visitation directed toward improvement of instruction.
22. Shall be responsible for coordination of high school events with the Master Calendar.
23. Shall be responsible for preparation and organization of general announcements.
24. Shall be responsible for conducting faculty meetings and promoting in-service education for the faculty at least once a month.
25. Shall be responsible for controlling all internal finances.
26. Shall be responsible controlling all inventories.
27. Shall be responsible for requisitions, distribution, and accounting for all supplies, educational materials, and equipment.
28. May suspend a pupil from school for up to ten days. Any suspension is to be followed by a letter to the parents explaining the suspension with a copy forwarded to the Superintendent.
29. Will have the responsibility of administering to all employees assigned to the various buildings under his/her jurisdiction.
30. Shall be responsible for maintaining complete date (7 years) on all incidents of corporal punishment.
31. Shall be responsible for the conduct and discipline of those students within the confines of the school buildings and grounds and those students transported by bus who are under his/her jurisdiction.
32. Shall be responsible for record maintenance and retention as outlined by either Board Policy or through direction of the Superintendent.
33. Shall be available for other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
